The ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) will mark its 20th anniversary on 27 September 2025. With the theme ACB@20: Nature, Nations, Next Generations, the Centre will hold a series of commemorative activities from 23 to 25 September 2025 at its headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines.

The celebration will bring together representatives from ASEAN Member States (AMS), the ASEAN Secretariat, conservation partners across various development sectors, youth organisations, artists, local biodiversity-friendly enterprises, members of the Los Baños Science Community Foundation Incorporated (LBSCFI), government agencies, embassies, businesses, and the private sector.

“Kulay-Ani: Harvesting Colors” Natural Dye Workshop by Playbox Arts

Description: Playbox Arts is a Los Banos-based creative learning events provider offering nature-inspired craft workshops for children and families. Inspired by the lush creative spirit of Maria Makiling, Playbox reimagines hands-on artmaking through the use of Philippine plant-based dyes.

Playbox will be facilitating the “Kulay-Ani: Harvesting Colors” Natural Dye Workshop. Participants will learn about common Philippine dye-yielding plants, will extract pigments from the root, bark, and leaves of certain plant dyes, and make their own tie-dye creations using Shibori techniques. While waiting for the dye-pot, participants will be treated to the “Habing Malaya” guided to a weaving activity, using upcycled fabric strips, yarns, beads, and natural foliage, all woven freestyle into their own unique woven creation.

As a bonus, participants will be able to print their own postcards from their freshly made plant-based dyes! A souvenir treat!
