ACB’s first road show, success in RP

Manila, Philippines -roadshowbThe ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) in cooperation with the Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Protected Areas and Management Bureau (PAWB) conducted the first of its series of Road Shows at the PAWB Visitor Center, Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Nature Center, Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines on 7-9 November 2007.

 

Mr. Rodrigo Fuentes, ACB Executive Director (inset top) and Ms. Ma. Consuelo Garcia, Director, ACB Biodiversity Information Management, introduce and provide brief overview of ACB during the ACB Road Show forum with the private sectors.


 

The ACB, as a new institution in the Host Country Philippines, needs to introduce itself and establish an identity in the Philippines in the hope ofgenerating interest and support from both private and public sectors. The Road Show introduced and provided a brief overview of ACB, and became a venue to meet and consult with stakeholders on their views and expectations on ACB, within the Philippines, and to discuss potential partnership and resource mobilization activities.

The three-day event were completed withforums with environmental organizations, academe, and private sector that are involved in roadshow4benvironmental and biodiversity concerns in the country for the first two days, while the third day was highlighted by a press conference with the Hon. DENR Secretary Jose “Lito” Atienza, Jr.

Secretary Atienza affirmed the host country’s support to the Centre in its endeavors. He also emphasized the need for the DENR and ASEAN to work closely together on biodiversity conservation.

 

 

The series of Road Shows takes off this year until 2008 throughout the ASEAN Region. The second of the series will be in Vientiane, Lao PDR on 15-16 November 2007. (J.Abes & M. Ibañez)
